I've recently become frustrated with this vampire anime I've been watching (which will go nameless so I don't spoil anything for the time being). A couple of episodes ago I got a bit attached to this one character, and now I think he's dead. And not just in the way the vampires are (un)dead (though there is also that), but actually killed off for real. And that just makes me sad.

See, I really thought this character was going to be important. He was a viewpoint character, both as a normal human and as a vampire. He was also an annoying asshole whom nobody liked, either in universe or out--though in-universe, whether he completely brought this upon himself or deserved all of it is not entirely made clear. But once he turned into a vampire, I really saw the potential for him to get a whole lot less annoying and more interesting as he grew into this new role in the story. It wouldn't be the first time a character got cooler and less annoying after being turned. What if he became a legit villain who kicked ass down the road in the interest of getting (what he assumed would be) his due?

But now I haven't seen or heard from him since that first scene of him as a vampire, and he hasn't appeared in any crowds I'd think he'd appear in. So either he's being very carefully hidden for some reason, or he's dead. That's the other thing: I don't actually know for a fact that this character IS dead, because he was never actually killed onscreen (or if he was, I missed it). It's possible that he may resurface at some point (no pun intended) but I suspect he won't. And I feel cheated. Yeah, that's it--cheated.

Ah, well. It's still a rockin' show regardless.

Man, I was like this with Madoka. I really thought Hitomi was going to be important (whether she becomes a magical girl or not), but in the end, she was just used as a plot device to contribute to Sayaka's suffering (Seriously. Where the hell did Hitomi's love for Kyousuke come from?), and I felt that was a big waste. :(
